Myopia Profile

Biofinity

This lens designs was originally designed for presbyopia and does not have any regulatory approvals for myopia control in children. When considered for off-label prescribing, the Biofinity® Multifocal lenses have a wide range of parameters and can be an option for children that don't fit or whose prescription is too high for other soft contact lens options. One randomized controlled trial showed efficacy and tolerance of children wearing the +2.50 D (centre-distance) design for slowing myopia progression. The +1.50 D design was also trialled and was found to not be effective. Another study with an historical control group showed efficacy for the Proclear® Multifocal +2.00 D (centre-distance) design.

A toric design is available, but it has not been studied for its efficacy for control of myopia in the presence of astigmatism. Monthly replacement contact lenses can be suitable for individuals who understand and can demonstrate good contact lens hygiene.
